You Can Be Critical or You Can Worship, But Not Both.

Updated: Apr 7, 2020

Being critical speaks of the barrenness of our heart, not of the knowledge in our head.

We are critical of other churches. We are critical about other beliefs. We are critical about other Christians. The list goes on; bosses, coworkers, other moms, and pastors.

And then we see in 2 Samuel 6 that David is dancing the most epic dance of his life in worship to God as the Ark of the Covenant was entering his city. He even strips off his royal robe to dance freely with the people in his “causal” outfit. And what does his wife do?

She criticizes his outfit.

"When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked in full view of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!” David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.” 2 Samuel 6:20-22.

The barrenness of her heart caused her to focus on his clothing rather than the fact that he was dancing, undignified, before the Lord in life-changing worship.

She missed it and she missed out. In fact, scripture says that she was barren and without child from that point forward.

We already know the things we are most critical of. Can we take a moment to look at the big picture? To understand that we miss the opportunity to dance in our own epic moments of worship when we stand by and criticize others?

God allows our differences, not so we can rate ourselves among others, but so that HE can get the glory through our differences. Let’s stop praying that God changes them and start asking Him to change us. THIS is how He gets what He deserves- the glory from our lives! ❤️

With Love,

Em
