Look at My Eyes

Have you ever seen the wild eyes of a child who is very much high on candy and junk food?

You're looking into an abyss of unpredictability with a total lack of focus. We call them crazy eyes. And when I have to get the attention of my girls through the thick fog of a sugar haze, I always tell them, "look at my eyes!". This usually gives them a target to focus on and we can get something accomplished. Maybe.

How many days are we running around like children who have sugar running through their veins? How often is God trying to get our attention in order to grab us by the shoulders and say, "Look at my eyes! Focus! Remember!"?

Romans 12:2 tells us "Do not conform to the patter of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

The pattern of this world includes working, striving, hustling, moving, doing, becoming, agonizing, stressing, worrying, etc. [Insert here what has been giving you a headache lately]

Can we go back to the basics for a moment?

God wants YOU more than He wants your work.

But instead of giving God our mind and soul, we ask Him for work, "God, give me something important to do", or we invite ourselves into a world of work that God didn't guide us to.

Don't conform to the world and put work FOR God ahead of intimacy with God. When our human nature and societal influence are yelling at us to DO, remember to sit with God and BE. Be vulnerable, be open, be honest, be present, be obedient.

Heart work is far more important than any other kind of work, but heart work only happens with the One Who made you.

So when it comes time to work and serve and give, the intimate relationship that you have with your Savior allows you to know Him and understand where He is taking you and what He is doing in your life.

"Do not conform to the patter of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is- His good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2

God wants YOU more than He wants your work. Start here. Then, end with the fruit of your relationship; work that is worthy and pure and good. This brings glory to God and fulfillment of your purpose. No crazy eyes here, but instead, days filled with the joy of His presence no matter what life brings.

I pray this for you today. Go get with God.

With Love, Em
