God to the Rescue- Part three

You're back! I'm so glad. I have no doubt that God has a word for you today. Just know that I've been thinking of you and praying for you already. We are walking through a breathtaking chapter in Psalms that shows how God rescues us in different seasons of our lives. It's so good. Let's dig in to part three.

Psalm 107:17-22 shows us part three of the series; God rescuing the sick and hurting.

While this passage certainly offers hope to those who are physically sick and hurting, there is a theme that this passage shares with the others; the sickness over self and the hurt of disconnection with God.

The Sick and Hurting

To the sick and hurting,

Imagine a time in which you've been sick, weak, and fatigued from bad decisions, or from a disconnection with God.

Your sickness is likely coming from your proximity to gaining more "stuff" and having more control over your life. It doesn’t take but a moment in the presence of sickness to become infected. In our world, it doesn’t take much for us to become sick and weak on it's disease to please and the desire to gain more and more. It doesn't take much for us to taste power and be entranced to chase more of it.

Most often, we don’t know that we are sick or hurting until we are battling the painful symptoms. In verse 17, “Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.”

Symptoms of the chase include; resentment, bitterness, lack of desire to grow in faith, lack of contentment, anxiety, stress, feeling of helplessness, feeling of running without ever arriving.

I know when I am spiritually sick. I withdraw from people in order to achieve my goals. I will take on more and more and more until I have no room for any sort of ministry or service. I become critical of people and resentful of my situation, always trying to chase the next best thing.

Every time I find myself here, I wonder how it happened. I know that God didn't create my life to look like this, so why does it happen when I know that He is good and faithful and always working? It's my proximity to the wrong things. But fortunate for us, we can change our proximity in an instant. We don't live without Hope that reaches down and pulls us out of our own funk.

Change your seat. Scoot in nice and close to the Father. Choose to lean in and listen to His voice.

Psalm 107:19-20 is like a fountain in the desert, “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress.”

God’s presence is the remedy.

His love puts what’s broken back together.

You aren't too sick.

You aren't too broken.

Your proximity to the Father can change in an instant.

Your proximity to the Father will change everything.

Your rescue may not be pretty, but it's everything that you need and more.

Redemption looks better on you than any success here on earth. Your proximity to Jesus fills every gap and mends every broken part. Give Him your heart then give Him the glory for it today.

With Love,

Em
