A major source of anxiety in my life right now (and really, always) is trying to figure out what to do with all of the things that I’ve been given; How to best invest the information I've been given, my time, my money, my energy, my love.
I want to get it right, especially in the environment that we are in right now.
But John shows us, through a leader named Gaius in 3 John, how it should be done;
Whatever Gaius got, he gave.
"Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to you. They have told the church about your love." 3 John 1:5-6
He loved strangers.
His love for them moved him to action.
His action changed the world he was in.
Our anxiety loses oxygen in this environment.
Anxiety tells us to get it all right, right now. Anxiety tells us that we are at full capacity. Anxiety tells us that we have no business loving strangers and serving them. But what if that's exactly what can begin to heal our anxious heart and mind?
Giving away what we've been given doesn't create anxiety, it ties us to our Greatest Source of stability; God Himself.
Possessions, forgiveness, encouragement, a hug (or elbow bump), a word of wisdom, or even a favor. What have you been given this week? This year? Did someone introduce you to Jesus? Did someone help show you how to walk closer with Him?
It’s your turn. Time to invest into the next girl.
Whatever you’ve got, give it.
Oh, and know this; God promises to take care of it all. He doesn’t promise to solve it, and He doesn’t promise to get rid of it. But He promises to take care of it by taking care of YOU.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under Gods mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6+7
Anxiety is a stubborn reality for most of us, but it's not a permanent one. Ask God how you can GIVE much of yourself away today. Whatever you've got, give it away.
In a season so upside down, this is how we get it right.
With Love,
Em
