All Who Wander May Actually Feel Lost After All

You weren’t created to wander.

Sheep wander.

Cows wander.

Deer wander.

People who are lost in the woods wander. You're not people lost in the woods.

Little children who've lost their momma in Target wander. You're the mom in Target, not the child. Side note: Ladies, we don't wander in Target, we explore with utmost confidence because we will always find what we need (and more).

What I'm getting at is this; We wander when we go about our life unsure about what we're supposed to do next, and then we allow that confusion to carry us to the next season of wandering and wondering.

God didn't establish your first breath and then every breath since then to be muddied with confusion about Who He is and what you're supposed to be doing with your life. He's a God of order, not confusion.

It's ok to not know what's next, but it's not ok to worry or feel helpless about it.

If you haven't noticed, wandering comes with anxiety and worry about all of the things that we should be doing and thoughts about how we're still not where we want to be.

I'll say it this way; We weren’t created to wonder about our life or worry about our next steps.

But yet, I find myself here, wandering and wondering, quite often. Asking, What's next, God? Why do I feel stuck? Why does life feel so aimless right now? Why don't I feel very connected to You? Are You really going to open a door or do I need to open it myself?

God’s Word reveals that even migrating birds know how, where, and when to migrate.

Even the stork in the sky

knows her appointed seasons,

and the dove, the swift and the thrush

observe the time of their migration.

Jeremiah 8:7

How can the birds know what to do, but yet I feel lost and without a plan?

Wandering doesn’t feel like it’s a choice we make, right? It never feels intentional, but rather accidental, like we couldn’t see it coming. As if it snuck up on us and now carries us to one unknown location after another.

But wandering is something that we actually step into all on our own. It’s a small choice we make in the moment to choose our own feelings over God’s never-changing truth. We wander when we take our eyes off of God. It happens when we choose to rely on ourselves more than on God and when we ignore God's truth.

Ultimately wandering isn’t helplessness, it’s selfishness.

If God gave birds with tiny brains the ability to pick up at the right time and fly in the right direction, then we can’t deny that God has given us everything we need— wandering has no place in His design for our lives.

So today, we choose to trust that:

1. God actually DOES has the next step, and He WILL give it to us.

2. His timing in giving us the next step is BEST.

3. He is worth following, no matter what that next step looks like.

Don't forget that you are fully known and fully loved by God. Choose to know Him by getting into His word every day— it’s how He speaks to us. Don't wander when you can walk confidently, following the light of truth;

"Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." Psalm 119:105

With Love,

Em
